The Cedar Valley Nature Trail is a segment of the American Discovery Trail and is one of the country’s oldest rail trails. This trail is a vital part of the Cedar Valley’s recreational infrastructure and links the Cedar Valley to communities south to Cedar Rapids.
The trail sustained heavy damage due to the floods of 2008 causing sections of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail to close until repairs could be made. With the opening of the Evansdale Bridge in 2011 and now the McFarlane Bridge opening in 2013, the Cedar Valley Nature Trail will again connect communities along its entire 52 mile corridor.
This is a multi-use trail used for biking, hiking, in-line skating, cross-country skiing, running, and nature study. The trail follows the floodplain of the Cedar River through forested areas, wetlands, and rolling farmlands. Campgrounds are located at the trail at McFarlane Park and Blackhawk Park.

"Adjusting" Flat Bars - Flat handlebars may seem non-adjustable. But, if yours are too wide, they can be cut to customize fit and feel. Usually, riders who enjoy demanding, technical trails appreciate a little additional width (24 to 27 inches), especially when using dual-suspension frames. All-round riders prefer a more standard width of about 22 inches. If yours are too wide, it's easy enough to shorten them. Measure carefully to ensure you leave room for all the parts that fit on the handlebar ends (it's best to remove 1/2- to 3/4-inch sections and see how the bar feels). Riser bars are also available, which are models that slope upwards on the ends to provide less bend in your back when you lean forward to grab the grips. Many off-roaders find that riser bars are just the ticket for a more comfortable position.
